The President of the museum is Alan Jeffrey with over 40 years’ experience as a property valuer and he is well connected in the business community. The Vice President of the museum is Glenn Dick who is a retired professional artist / sign manufacturer recognised and well connected in local history initiatives including the Maritime Museum and Douglas Vale Vineyard projects being a Life Member of each.
Alan Jeffrey & Glenn Dick work together to promote the Port Macquarie Surf Museum and to bring this plan into action. Assisted by the Committee, Honorary members and senior community consultants from various backgrounds in Business, Tourism, Heritage, Accountancy and Birpai Local aboriginal Land Council.
The museum will collect historical data and information including artefacts to be displayed in the gallery for the benefit of the community. There will be a research room where the collection and surf history & culture can be properly documented and preserved. Admission fees & memberships will be in place to cover overhead costs and raise funds to benefit the Museum project. Memorabilia will be for sale on site to raise funds for the preservation of surfing history and therefore to the benefit of the wider community. The museum will also interact with the community to maximise benefit returned.
Some of these initiatives include but are not limited to promoting surf safety & surf rescue, interactive classes to preserve ancient surf “crafting” techniques, helping bring national surf competitions back to town, working with disability surf groups, etc. inclusive of the Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council.
